Well this was the big one, the most famous one, the one on the Cambodian flag, the one most people come to see at sunrise to get a picture of the temples in the reflection of a pool. We decided not to bother with sunrise, we were enjoying our "road less travelled" tour.
This day delivered yet again, we went in the opposite gate to 98% of travellers, past the lily pond (and thankfully a couple of hawkers so I could buy some elephant pants - as forgot I needed my knees covered for this temple, and shoulders as it turns out and a scarf does not qualify). Toby ran off towards the gate to start climbing and exploring and had and were the only ones on the track towards the temples.
Our first view of it is below and then we went around it in the direction least used by tourists.
There were plenty of stunning carvings, which told many an entertaining tale.
Inside there was a place to worship right, well lots of places with budha.
So on the first wall we saw, there were about 100 people along the 100metre wall but on one two around, there was just us as all the tourists had gone up the stairs in the middle, amazing how you can avoid so much of the crowds.
if you squint you may be able to make out some of the long lines of people off their buses above.
Below is the "classic" reflection shot , another statue to worship and a couple getting married - one of at least 4 outfits for the day.
Although it is the most famous, it was the temple we enjoyed the least. It looks quite spectacular from a distance and the engravings are amazing but up close the temples weren't the most spectacular we'd seen and the volume of tourists was a bit overwhelming.
